Why PC Mysteries ?

I've been using computers since 1991, when I bought my first 286 with a 5 MB hard drive. Although I've been a regular PC user over the years and have upgraded my system periodically, I still remain a basic user.

Most of my PC use centers around excel, word, email and browsing the net for work and fun. I guess, like most users, I have the basic skills to get by, but don't use my system efficiently, or even know about most features on my system.

A couple of developments prompted me to start this blog. About a year ago, I discovered the world of PC Tips and Tweaks. I went through websites and magazines that offered guys like me tips on things I could do with my PC and the net. It was fascinating.I explored a world of amusing, entertaining tools, applications and net tips I never knew existed or even imagined I would like to use.

The second development was that I started working in a PC tech services company surrounded by tech savvy, geeky types in their 20s(I'm in my early 50s) who played around with PCs, Laptops and PDAs with an ease which startled me.My job was to make sure that any products or services we offered could be understood by non tech savvy customers.

I'd force our techs to explain things to me in very simple language before we introduced any new service - and it often frustrated them. They'd urge me to get "tech savvy' and I would resist.

This blog is an attempt to share some of the interesting stuff I've found and used, or tried to use. Its written from a non tech perspective and will reflect the excitement, wonder, irritation, frustration and hope that I feel when I try out new stuff. I hope you'll find it as entertaining or useful as I have done. Any comments, additions, corrections or tips are welcome.
